Boston's The Kitty Kill does this music thing right. Each member of this 3 piece all female band holds their own to create a strong, solid band that ROCKS--The Kitty Kill way.

Guitar feedback up Plastic, then in start the drums, followed by the bass, with the guitar still sustaining the whole time. The vocals come in as the feedback stops. What a great way to start out this CD. No doubt about it, Plastic rocks from the very first sound that's made. Vocalist/guitarist Sandy Merhy has the kind of voice that I want to hear over edgy guitar and a solid rhythm section--her voice is smooth and deep.

This trio has the chops as players, and all the extras like backing vocals by Jenn Dagger are a great sound for The Kitty Kill. I love to hear a female guitarist who throws in solos every once in a while, they fit well into The Kitty Kill's songs when they're added. There are tons of great songs on this CD. Secrets and Flinch remind me of Nirvana, as do some of the other songs, because of the guitar sound, singing style, killer dynamics, and some other similarities. Straight touches on a style reminiscent of earlier Joan Jett. Comparisons have been made to Sleater-Kinney....do I hear that? well maybe just a little, but all of the influences that you may hear in their music are just bits and pieces, they don't sound like a knock off of some other band.

The Kitty Kill has referred to their style as punk/pop. I find that they lean more towards the punk style with the energy and power that is put into their musicianship, the pop style comes through a bit with the backing vocals. On So Much, the backing vocals are such a big part of the song, in this case they don't give the song a "pop" sound, they're just hypnotizing. Could You starts out with a great guitar riff that brings on a metal feeling, though the song doesn't sound metal at all, Merhy's guitar is chunky and strong, backed by the solid drumming of Jen Chouinard.

Plastic comes to a close with Answers, a powerful, non-wimpy acoustic song. Merhy's guitar shows off her versatility, and even more songwriting talent. But I was already convinced that The Kitty Kill had all these things before I heard Answers.

You really need to hear The Kitty Kill. They deserve your attention for just a few minutes, that's all it will take to love this band!! There's something about The Kitty Kill.......
