Wednesday May 7th Boston MA - The Chopping Block
Today we’re having our “going away” show at The Chopping Block” in Boston. We arrive at our space and meet Tami Hart who is coming on our mini-tour with us. Even though she’s only brining a guitar, she’s already in “tour mode” and carrying everyone’s amps and drums.
We arrive early enough at the Chopping Block and set up the merch table and the haircutting salon. This marks the first and only haircuts given on the tour. Sara did two long do’s for some very satisfied customers.
A great crowd comes out for our send off which is really nice. We see new and old friends who wish us well on our journey. We meet a cool guy who hooks us up with a cooler full of Harpoon. We have a lot of fun playing and get home and in bed by 12:30 for the big shove off tomorrow morning.

 Thursday May 8th
Poor Sandrine and Amy get stuck with the thankless job of picking up the van. They lead a convoy of vehicles from Everett, to Dorchester, to Waltham to J.P. No one envies them. Despite the unpleasantness of that, I arrive with the JP crowd at Amy’s to pack up the van. 15 passengers, my ass. Maybe 15 children. They take out the back seat to accommodate our equipment and parade of Aerobeds. Sandrine is the Jenga master put in charge of utilizing every square inch of space in the van and then memorizing it for the next week.
We head off around 1pm and after a quick return for a forgotten man purse, we are on our way. We arrive in Provincetown around 4 and check into the Pilgrim House, which is right above the Vixen where we’ll be playing tomorrow night. They were nice enough to give us 4 rooms, and we’re really excited about it. Paige gets the unlucky key and accidentally barges in on a very nice couple enjoying their room, if you know what I mean, and I think you do. We switch and get adjoining rooms.
We took a group excursion to my new favorite seafood restaurant Clem & Ursie’s who stays open an extra 45 minutes so we could eat. Very nice… We spend the night and $9 in bake sale proceeds on Ms. Pac Man and Pool. It’s a very entertaining lobby and I get a $7 gin and tonic. (I nearly had a stroke.) After the 2nd to last ER we head to our rooms for a rest.

Friday May 9th Vixen, Provincetown, MA - Vixen

Friday is a beautiful day in Provincetown. We spend the day shopping and trying to convince locals to come to our show. The show has to start early for the bitchin’ dance party starts around 10pm. So, we’re on from 8-10. Our sound check is at the rousing hour of 3pm. We load in our equipment and admire the velvet curtains and the greenroom with our very own bathroom.
The club owner and the sound person set up the hair cutting station to end all hair cutting stations. It was INTENSE. On top of a light-up dancing box. That’s right, one of those disco boxes that drunk girls always shake their thang on. Even though no one took us up on a haircut, it looked pretty cool.
For off-season I thought we had a pretty good turnout. People were really enthusiastic and we had a good time. The show is over and we move our equipment into the back room to make room for dancin’. The techno starts, the lights flash.. all the necessary ingredients were there. We have a RPS dance party with Jesse and Jen getting the most play from a very enthusiastic 75 year old woman with a red sequent beret. She was having a great time and really made our night.

Saturday May 10th Albany, NY

I wake up feeling like I was going to die. I’ve gotten my ceremonial vacation cold which I get EVERY time I take some days off of work.We take a nice scenic drive to the beach and all play like a Catholic School class trip gone wild.
We set out for Sara’s mom’s house right outside of Albany to make the drive to Buffalo a little less painful. After stopping for what seemed like 25 pee breaks, we arrive to Sara’s mom’s house around 5pm. She has a wonderful spread of food set out for us. The vegetarians were most excited about the quiche. This is where we met our friend Zolar from the planet Zoooooooooo. Jen C. after one too many Poland Spring sparkling waters, decides to wear bottlecaps as eyes and put her hoodie over her legs. She transformed into Zolar. After a long day in the van, we were all very entertained.
I’m not one to be an armchair commando, but the three hours of 007 were a little much. Apparently for everyone else too, we went to bed at 11.

Sunday May 11th Buffalo, NY
- Mohawk Place
We get up relatively early setting the tone for the week. I’ve never been around such early risers. We take showers in Sara’s mom’s CRAZY shower which has these jets that hit you right in the chest. It’s an intense experience that we like to think of when picking crust off ourselves the other days. Sara’s mom even lets us do a load of laundry. After gorging ourselves with bagels we’re ready to hit the road to Buffalo.
We get to Buffalo around 5pm. Some people want to chill at the club but some of us decide to venture out and try to find people to give flyers. We are unsuccessful. We had a run-in at the library from the snooty assistant that wouldn’t let me check my email without a library card. Jen with eyes like a hawk spots a woman with short hair across the street. Risking life and limb, she runs across the street to give her a flyer. She is already coming to the show and bringing some of her friends. We’re really excited to know people are coming to the show and give Jen the big thumbs up for being so aggressive.
Back to the club and people are starting to arrive to work. We meet the bartender and the sound person who seem kinda grumpy, but warm up as the evening progresses. Marty, who booked the show said they were going to cook for us. We’re thinking pizza and beer. But, NO! They came in with a gourmet restaurant cooked up right in front of us. We greedily eat WAY too much delicious food and give Marty a standing ovation.
There’s a little feature on us in the Buffalo newspaper that says something to the effect of “Rep. Rick Santorum’s head would explode if her were to wander into Mohawk Place tonight.” I guess that’s a compliment, right?
The girl we met and some other people come to the show to make it a nice turnout for a city we’ve never played in before. Everyone was very nice and bought enough CD’s so we could eat the next day. We follow Marty back to his pad which he graciously lets us crash in. Sandrine sleeps out in the van because he has a cat and she’s allergic. The rest of us hole up in his living room and guest bedroom.

Monday May 12th  Rochester, NY - The Bug Jar
The drive from Rochester – Buffalo is like an hour and a half so we take our sweet time getting ready. Sandrine’s amp is messed up so wego to a music store and make a million calls trying to find someone to fix it, no luck. We decide we’ll go to the hotel in Rochester and call our sound guy for advice. We get to the hotel, and the amp is miraculously fixed.
Thankfully, Tam was perusing the rest stop reading material and comes across a coupon for $35 hotels in Rochester. We’re so excited we get two rooms. I can only explain it as a “complex” with all these weird one-level dorm-looking buildings. We’re in D and I think we’re the only ones in there. We’re really excited to watch the news and take showers before heading to Peppermints for a delicious down home dinner. Our waitress wants to send her daughter to our show, but won’t because it’s a “school night.” The Bug Jar is the coolest club! This picture is of the ceiling. There’s an entire apartment ?glued? to the ceiling! It’s so awesome.
Call us optimistic, but I really did believe people would come out on a Monday night. But, they didn’t. Thankfully two of our new friends from Buffalo made the trek down to Rochester to party with us. I don’t know if it was something in the water or what, but we were all totally wired. Since we were really the only people in the audience, we had a good time dancing on stage with one another, screaming and generally losing control. I will admit, I threw my bra at Amy while she was playing and Tam wore it on her face for a whole song.  Jen played impromptu drums during ’19.” I had a great time. We made $5.

Tuesday May 13th  Philadelphia, PA - The Fire
This is the big driving day that we’ve been dreading. We plan to leave at 10am, and end up leaving around 10:30 which I consider a success. Sara, Sandrine, Jen and I all decide to rock breakfast at the McDonalds across the street. Those of you in Northampton got the total story from Sara, but it was pretty bad. Our little McDonalds counter person was a freak-hater and was totally mean to all of us. Including “I have no idea what you were trying to achieve with your change” (sara’s bill was 3.48 and sara have her 4.08 ya’ know.. to minimize pennies) to which Sara responded “I’ve achieved glory.” It was bad.         Upon looking at the map I discover we are going right through the town my parents live in on our way to Philadelphia. We are planning to come back there to sleep anyway, so we decide to make a pit stop and drop off our bags and beg for free lunch. I call my dad who goes to get us all pizza. We have a nice little break and continue on to Philadelphia.
We arrive in Philadelphia and the first thing the coffee shop lady says to us is “did you know joan jett is playing tonight?” We’re like, “NO WAY!!! No one is going to come to our show!!” We go to the source right down the street and find out she’s actually just receiving an award and not performing. On our way out of the club we see her getting out of her car. Paige has some bizarre connection to her which I don’t fully understand. Regardless, we stand at the corner faking reading magazines while Paige talks to her. We didn’t want to seem like stalkers, ya know?
We meet up with our friend Samantha who has offered to feed us and hang out with us. She’s going to be reading at tonight’s show and we’re all really excited about it. She makes a really amazing spread and we get to meet all of her cool friends.
We head over to The Fire. It’s a really cool club. For those of you who are Bostonites, it’s like the Abbey Lounge. They let us hang out upstairs in this apartment/office type place. It’s nice to be able to relax after a day of stressful traffic and such. There was also a cooler full of water and Schlitz, which was exciting.
The show was probably our most populated one outside of Boston. Samantha pulled out all the stops with promotion and people came and enjoyed the show. We had a really good time at this show too. After the show, we got totally lost in Philadelphia. We arrive at my parents house around 3:30am and my mom has made us cupcakes! She is so cute. We spread out on various couches/rooms and head to bed.

Wednesday May 14th Northampton, MA -Harry's

My mom calls in sick to stay and make us blueberry pancakes. We leave relatively early and head to NoHo. It's a relatively short ride, about 5 hours. We arrive at Harry's and automatically are drawn to Hydro Thunder the most intense boat driving game you could imagine. There are little tables set up aroudn the stage which is usually a bad rock sign, but we decide to go with it. The people who come seem to enjoy themselves and for a last show, I think we do pretty well. We all load up the van for the last time and head home. We stop at our rehearsal space and drop off all the equipment and then the shuttle to everyone's apartments. I'm lucky, one of the first dropped off, and I get home around 4am. Overall, the tour was SO FUN and I think we all had a great time. Thank you to everyone who came out to support us.
